We at Happy Cow Creamery and Trantham 12 Aprils Dairy are proud of what we do. For over 10 years we have offered tours to educate young and old alike about what we do and who we are. We love our farm and we want to be able to share that love with you through our tours.
The farm has been in operation since 1979. It became what it is today not just because of hard work and dedication, but because of a love for nutrition and a love for the animals that provide us with one of the most nourishing beverages there is—milk!
Sadly, in an area that used to have many dairy farms, we are the last in Greenville and Pickens County. We low-temp pasteurize and bottle our own milk and therefore we are able to offer more to see than most other typical dairies. We are also proud to boast that we are the only bottling plant in the world located in a Harvestore silo.
While touring, your group will take a trolley ride to see our lush grazing paddocks. You’ll also see our milking parlor where our “girls” work. Throughout the tour your guide will tell you the story behind Happy Cow Creamery and how with a touch of hard work and a lot of God’s grace we are able to offer our community a healthy, fresh, and affordable product. And of course a sampling of the milk and some ice cream is a must at our covered picnic area. Large groups: Don’t forget to ask Allie about making lunch arrangements through our catering partner and about reserving the picnic shelter!
Our hope in offering tours is to educate our community about the importance of local agriculture and maybe even spark an interest in farming in our youth! By the end of the day, your group will leave our farm with a better understanding of where milk begins and ends and all of the in-between. The tours are sure to be educational with a touch of good ol’ farm fun! So come join us and let us share what we feel will be a trip your group will remember for years to come!
Booking a Tour
Our tour season runs from late March – November, weather permitting.
Tours are available for booking Monday – Friday. Saturday tour dates are pre-determined and are designed for the individual family or small groups (part of our Family Tour series). When booking a weekday tour, we must have a minimum of 20 people per tour. If you have a family or a group smaller than the minimum but want a weekday tour, you will be scheduled with another group pending availability. Another option for individual families and/or small groups is our Family Tour schedule. Please see below for the current Family Tour dates.
For 2015, the cost of the tour is $8.00 per person. This includes a single serve ice cream in either chocolate or vanilla and milk samplings. Children 2 years old and under tour for free, but do not receive free ice cream. Ice cream is available for purchase for $1 inside the Happy Cow store.
Tours must be booked and confirmed in advance. Please do not show up at the farm expecting a tour if it has not been pre-scheduled and confirmed.
Please remember that because our tour is an outdoor event, the weather may affect the scheduling and/or cancellation of tours. Also, we are a real, working farm and therefore there may be occasions when we are not able to accommodate touring certain areas.
